It’s not uncommon for a community to have just one person responsible for meeting the erosion control permitting requirements of dozens, even hundreds, of construction projects each year. So when a client asked SEH to develop a proactive way to track erosion and sediment control inspection requirements, we responded with PermiTrackESC. PermiTrackESC is a web-based erosion/sediment control permit tracking application that is accessed through the SEH Client Access Point—our secure client portal. The application may be used via any computer/PDA with Internet access, providing multiple staff, in multiple locations, with access to view project-specific erosion/sediment control permit information. In fact, the release of this application has been lauded as an innovative technology by the EPA, in the Center for Environmental Industry and Technology, and by Storm Water Solutions, a major industry periodical, in their recent (July 2007) Case-of-the-Month, showcasing the erosion control efforts by the City of Madison, WI. Simply put, field personnel using a hand-held PDA or notebook computer, field personnel can visit a site, create an inspection report, take and save photos, view the site’s erosion control history inspection, and record observations that are automatically entered into the database. No paper to keep track of and file. No re-entering information back at the office. And the information is immediately available to anyone with appropriate security. If desired, PermiTrackESC also allows the public to play a role in monitoring erosion control. Using the GoogleTM map interface, residents can view all active construction projects within the community and file a concern regarding a site. If a problem is noted, PermiTrackESC immediately alerts the permitting authority to conduct a site visit to determine if a violation has occurred. This not only saves staff time and money, but provides a great opportunity to positively interact with the public. PermiTrackESC also:
PermiTrackESC allows permitting authorities to save money while helping permittees go above and beyond the basic requirements of their erosion control permits, maximizing inspections.
